I’ve had a bit of a period without getting outdoors much lately, since getting back. This has mostly been a consequence of having gotten straight back into the flat-hunting routine, then moving in. (Yay, Stacey’s good at organising.) Work’s back in full swing, and I’ve found myself with plenty of additional things to do. The down-side has been that there hasn’t been much time for other stuff, and when there has, I’ve just felt a bit like not doing anything.
A couple of weeks ago I went for a walk from Brooklyn around the Karori Sanctuary fence, then over the Skyline walkway to Johnsonville. It was very windy and I only met a couple of other crazy people on the track, plus a contingent of nice people from the Upper Hutt tramping club who’d decided it was a bit too windy and come along the northern walkway, but other than that I haven’t really done much.
Some good news (for me) is that I should be getting out again in a week or so, it seems somewhere in the Ruahines. Tramping clubs are great for transport, motivation and organisation, but there’s also a bit of waiting. It’s something to look forward to, though. That and the return of Futurama.
One of the worst bits of news I heard on arriving home was that Mainly Tramping liquidated when I was away. This was very sad news. I haven’t been involved for very long compared with the 23 or so years that that shop’s been in business, but it was definitely one of the best places in Wellington for tramping-related stuff. Everyone who worked there knew their stuff. Sign of the times I guess.
The last thing to note is that I’m trying out WordPress, which seems quite a lot better than BlogSpot. If it works out to be worth it, I might move all my old weblog entries over here, and maybe arrange my own hosting. Yay for WordPress.
