Hi Robb. I guess it's the content that counts. I've never been one for aesthetic food, and underneath that thin layer of couscous is a walloping of pure ice cream, for better or worse. I'm still not sure how to make this an effective tramping recipe, but We sometimes make custard for dessert and it works well over a fruit cake like those Ernest Adams ones. Very yummy.

Kia ora Mike,
I have to write I had a good chuckle when viewing the photo of your efforts. Though by dim candle light in a hut after a long day I am sure I would look forward to a generous dollop on my plate. My old tramping mate used to always carry in a few steamed puddings and real cream to enjoy, particularly on just over nighters. Took a bit of gas, or watching the fire closely, but great results. Happy tramping Mike.
Cheers,
Robb

Thanks for the tip, that makes sense. I'm still not sure about the tramping occasion... if I'm proposing it then I might try to find someone else to carry in a microwave and some extra petrol for the generator. Or we could just heat it with a stove, I guess. :)

If you actually want to make it again - try microwaving the jam for 15-20 seconds and it should get runny. Or mix a bit of hot water into it.

It sounds awfully filling!
